The coin features the well recognised Gibraltar Barbary Ape, with a popular beleif being that as long as the Barbary Apes exist on Gibraltar then the territory will remain under British rule. Released into circulation in Gibraltar this 50p is not legal tender in the UK, so is very unlikely to ever turn up in your change!
