Released in 2013 the coin was issued to celebrate the man behind the designs of the UK's first decimal coins and features an alternative design he entered for the original decimal 50p. With a mintage of 7,000,000 the coin is in relatively plentiful supply and is one of the most common 50p designs in circulation.
